털이 보플거리는 낡은 푸른색 담요를 가장 사랑하는 엘모.
그의 제일 친한 친구 조이가 담요를 가져가서 돌려주지 않자 실랑이가 벌어지고, 담요는 세서미 스트리트로 날아가 버린다.
그리하여 엘모는 그 담요를 따라가 는데, 쓰레기통 바닥에서 갈가리 찢긴 담요를 발견하고 그걸 잡아당기다가 그만 세상에서 가장 역겨운 그라우 치랜드로 통하는 오색의 통로로 빨려 들어가게 된다.
엘모의 모험이 시작된 것이다.
